Telstra, Netcomm and Sierra Wireless combine to produce mobile broadband gateways for business and home use

Jul 24, 2008 (TELECOMWORLDWIRE via COMTEX) -- SWIR| Quote| Chart| News| PowerRating-- Telstra, an Australian telecomms company, has launched a newmobilebroadband gateway device developed in partnership with NetcommLimited,an Australian data communications technology company andSierraWireless (NASDAQ: SWIR| Quote| Chart| News| PowerRating)(TSX: SW), a 3G embedded module manufacturer.

The device, to be marketed as both the Telstra Turbo 7 Series WirelessGateway for business customers and the BigPond 7.2 Wireless BroadbandHome Network Gateway, combines mobile 3G broadband access with a Wi-FiGateway and Enthernet connectivity. The device will work with Telstra'sNext G mobile broadband network.

Netcomm and Telstra signed a Product Supply Agreement in May 2008 forthe provision of broadband routers, building on an ongoing relationshipbetween the two companies.

The gateway is being offered as an alternative or a backup to fixedline broadband. The Sierra Wireless 3G module embedded in the device isthe same module used across Telstra's 7 series range. The device offersfeatures such as WPA data encryption, SPI Firewall and VPN pass through.

Business customers can purchase the Telstra Turbo 7 Series WirelessGateway for Telstra Mobile Business for AUS529. Availability andpricing of the BigPond 7.2 Wireless Broadband Home Network Gateway fornon-business customers is to be announced soon.
