Widely held to be the tipping point for consumer broadband uptake, VoIP and VoI are soon to become popular products in the NetComm range.
While it’s early days for Voice over IP (VoIP) in Australia, it is already a viable mainstream technology overseas.
The UK's largest telecoms carrier BT Group, for instance, partnered with Yahoo! this year to market software allowing users to make VoIP calls from their PCs and to make calls to fixed or mobile numbers at standard call rates.
Major analyst groups such as Gartner saw the development as signalling the genuine arrival of commercial VoIP services. Strong business and residential uptake is now expected throughout Europe, the U.S and the Asia Pacific.
NetComm is set to become a major player in the VoIP market with a number of easy-to-install solutions for corporate and home users looking to extract more value from their broadband connections.
First off the rank is NetComm's range of VoIP handsets, featuring handy configuration software so that broadband users with little or no technical knowledge can connect immediately to their VoIP service provider and be talking over the Internet. Users simply plug the handset in to their ADSL modem and activate the service in just a few clicks.
All products feature multiple Codec support, ensuring that users can manage their broadband connection to achieve optimal voice quality over a broadband connection. Further, SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) is fully supported, ensuring that network administrators and other users can prioritise network resources for VoIP calls.
NetComm has also launched its ATA (Analogue Telephone Adaptor), allowing users to make IP calls from a normal telephone, an especially useful application for small businesses looking to make the most of their existing equipment.
NetComm will announce in the next few weeks new ADSL modem and modem/ router products featuring analogue phone ports, further simplifying the move to VoIP for broadband users.
